The Nevado Jampa, located in the Vilcanota Mountain Range and belonging to the district of Ocongate in the Cusco region, has historically been essential for mountaineering in the region as an acclimatization point. With an altitude of 5500 m, Nevado Jampa has stood out for being considered one of the mountains with relatively easy access via the normal northwest route.
Unfortunately, in 2024, a concerning retreat of the glacier on this mountain has been observed due to the impact of global warming. Sun exposure has led to the loss of a large expanse of ice, leaving only a small glacier tongue of approximately 50 to 60 meters in length. Furthermore, the final sections of the summit have seen the disappearance of the glacier wall, transforming into an imposing rocky wall. This transformation alarmingly highlights the effects of climate change on these majestic mountains.

Let's always take care of the mountains before everything disappears and let's do our mountaineering activities with a lot of responsibility.
