The Mariposa South Mountain is a peak preceding Mariposa Mountain, with a main altitude of 5,842 meters. It is one of the mountains climbed as a replacement for Jampa Mountain and serves as an acclimatization mountain for the ascent to Ausangate, which reaches 6,384 meters. It is a very spectacular mountain, with abundant snow and glaciers on the southern route, although the northwest route is predominantly rocky due to sun exposure.
The snow conditions are impressive, starting with the first summit of the Tres Cruces and continuing to the summit of Mariposa South. Additionally, this route offers views of the Callangate mountain range, the Maria Huamanticlla peaks, and in the background, Ausangate Mountain by its normal route and the shield wall.
