Horses are raised by muleteers in the lower parts of the Pacchanta Community, at 4000 m.a.s.l., where grass is abundant and vegetation thrives. At 4400 m.a.s.l., vegetation is scarce due to frost. These animals are carefully cared for, receiving deworming, vitamins and fodder as part of their feed. Each horse makes one trip and rests for 2 to 3 days before participating in a new expedition.
Each time a horse is acquired, it can have many skills or be chúcaro (inexperienced). Each arriero trains the horses for two modalities: riding and loading. They train them in critical situations so that they do not get scared when putting on the saddle, when loading or with the presence of flags and plastics, among others. However, there are some horses with traits that cannot be corrected, such as running during loading or riding; these horses are discarded. Training these horses to be tame during expeditions to the 7 lakes of Ausangate and the Ausangate trek is very hard work.
In the event that the passenger chooses to interrupt the journey, they will be responsible for any additional expenses that may arise, such as food or transportation. It is worth noting that no refunds will be provided in situations of delayed flights, train delays, adverse weather conditions, or other external factors such as withdrawal from the route.
