The Humantay Lake Trek is a day tour that allows you to explore a beautiful destination in Cusco. This day hike is worth doing while in Cusco. The Humantay Lagoon is a glacier lagoon surrounded by mountains like the Salkantay and Humantay. These mountains are at the bottom of this destination that give beauty to the route.

Humantay Lake Trek Itinerary

This day we will start the trip early with our guide and transport will pick you up at your accommodation between 04:20 to 4:30 in the morning, we will make a trip of two and a half hours in our transport to the district of Mollepata, where we can have breakfast and use the services, do some shopping for the hike. After breakfast we will continue our journey for an hour in our transport, the road we will take is a dirt road (trail) to Soraypampa which is located at an altitude of 3900 meters above sea level. During the trip we will see beautiful landscapes and the impressive snow-capped mountain "Salkantay". 

From Soraypampa we will start a 2 km hike, the road is ascending and it will take us about 1 hour and 40 minutes, while hiking we will see a panorama of snow-capped mountains, unique natural landscapes and a great diversity of flora and fauna until we reach the "Humantay Lagoon" which is located at an altitude of 4200 meters above sea level.

The "humantay lagoon" is turquoise due to the mineral that is in the bottom and the clearest coloration can be observed when the day is sunny, the lagoon is fed by glaciers of the mountain and is considered a jewel of nature, besides enjoying the Humantay lagoon we can appreciate the breathtaking views of the mountains that surround it. 

We will descend walking until we reach Soraypampa where our transportation will be waiting for us to bring us back to the district of Mollepata, where we can enjoy a buffet lunch. After lunch we will start our return trip to Cusco. Our tour ends at 17:30 to 18:30 pm in the main square or agreed point.

The hike to Humanatay includes

Price of the hike to the Humantay lagoon

Reservation Policies

Reservations are made in advance with a 30% payment of the total cost. The remaining balance is paid in cash in Cusco during the informational briefing.

Changes and Cancellation Policies

Tour rescheduling is allowed with proper notice, except for Machu Picchu tours. Passenger no-shows will result in the total loss of the service. Cancellation or withdrawal from the service will not be eligible for a refund.

How long does the hike to Laguna Humantay take?

The hike takes 1.5 to 2 hours at a slow pace, and the descent takes approximately 1 hour to the Soraypampa camp.

When is the best time to go to the Humantay Lagoon?

There is no exact date because it has a great variety of weather conditions. The best time is! The dry season runs from May to October and this is usually the most recommended time.

Do I need to bring my passport for the hike?

For the hike to Laguna Humantay you don't need to carry any documents, only for emergencies or any unexpected control you can carry a copy of your passport.

What type of transportation is used?

All the vehicles we use for this type of trek are modern Mercedes Benz Sprinter minibuses that have all the documentation required by the national authorities, all vehicles are maintained daily to keep them in good condition and clean and each vehicle has been properly registered.

How will the altitude affect me on the hike to the Humantay Lagoon?

When traveling in the Andes in Peru some people will suffer some effects of the altitude. If you plan to hike Laguna Humantay, we recommend arriving 2 or 3 days before the start of the hike to acclimatize and rest or you can do it the last day of your stay in Cusco since Laguna Humantay is at 4200 meters above sea level.

What can I do to prevent altitude sickness?

We recommend staying in Cusco for at least 2 days and drink as much water as you can and drink coca tea that can be ordered anywhere you want, you can also prepare it with boiled water and dried coca leaves. At least one day before the tour we recommend you to eat light food and if you have any medicine prescribed by your doctor you can take it and the best thing you can do is to keep in mind that you will be fine.

Do you require a deposit for the reservation?

Yes, we require a reservation deposit of 30% of the total cost of the tour that you can make from the web. You also have the option of paying 50% or 100%, if you cancel the tour 24 hours in advance, you will have 100% refund, if you do not do it within 24 hours you will lose the money deposited.

What happens after I make my deposit?

Once we receive your deposit, we will confirm your reservation by email and send you all the details about the Humantay Lagoon hike.

Can I hire a horse to the Humantay Lagoon?

Yes, you can go on horseback to the Humantay Lagoon, you can rent horses directly with the locals which cost between 60 and 80 soles per person. 

How long will I be at the Humantay Lagoon?

The time we usually spend at the Humantay Lagoon is approximately one hour, depending on the pace of the group and weather conditions.
