Qeswachaka Bridge Tour 1 Day

Qeswachaka Bridge Tour 1 Day

The Q’eswachaka Bridge is one of the last living remnants of the ancient Qhapaq Ñan and a true gem of the Inca legacy in Cusco. Located in the village of Quehue, this hanging bridge made from natural plant fibers is rebuilt every year by local communities in an ancestral ritual that has remained intact for more than 600 years. Its construction is a collective effort: the women braid and prepare the ichu ropes, while the men weave and assemble the bridge until it is complete. The whole process takes around four days and is carried out following the original techniques passed down since Inca times.

The bridge is 28 meters long and 1.20 meters wide, crossing the Apurímac River in a landscape surrounded by mountains, cliffs, and the four lagoons of the valley. This is a unique opportunity to explore an authentic destination, far from conventional tourism, where history, culture, and nature come together in an incomparable setting. On this tour, you will witness a living tradition and discover a bridge that continues to be used and maintained by the same communities who inherited it from their ancestors.

Itinerary – Q’eswachaka Bridge Tour – Full Day

Day 1: Cusco – Cusipata – Quehue – Q’eswachaka Bridge – Cusco

Our day begins early in Cusco, between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM, when we pick you up from your hotel. Once the group is ready, we head south of Cusco in our tourist transportation, enjoying the first views of the Andean sunrise. Our first stop will be in Cusipata, where we will have a typical breakfast before continuing the route.

We then continue our journey toward the province of Canas, traveling through beautiful valleys and rural villages until we reach the district of Quehue, the entrance point to the historic Q’eswachaka Bridge. From there, we take a short walk to the natural viewpoints that allow us to observe the bridge hanging over the Apurímac River.

Once at the bridge, our guide will explain its cultural significance and how this ancestral construction is kept alive thanks to the work of the local communities every year. You will have free time to explore, take photographs, and enjoy the surroundings of the four lagoons.

We continue the tour by visiting the viewpoints of the lagoons and other scenic spots. Afterwards, we enjoy a traditional lunch, with vegetarian options available.

Finally, we begin our return to Cusco, arriving approximately between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM, ending a unique cultural, historical, and natural experience in the Andes.
